Screwdriving is a hacker term similar to wardriving. However, while wardriving is just finding WiFi networks while driving, screwdriving is much more personal. While screwdriving, a hacker detects smart toys from outside and then takes them over. Pen Test Partners recently showed how it was possible to remotely access and take over a butt plug.
What that means for your sex toys?
Recently those same researchers from Pen Test Partners were able to detect a Lovesense Hush. They accessed the toy remotely and showed that they had the ability to set the toy to full power. They didn’t actually take over the toy, however, they showed how as long as the attacker remained connected over BLE there was no way for the owner of the toy to stop the vibrations.
Good intentions
PTP isn’t out to convince you to stop buying smart toys, their goal is simply to enable consumers to enjoy the toys with fear of injury or over stimulation. Their hope is that by talking about the problems with toy security marketers will improve their security. We hope so too before some crazy exs decide to seek vengeance via sex toys.
