Not even a month ago, we released “Orgasm For Your Health”—a view on orgasms in the context of improving one’s well-being, specifically mentioning their benefit of stress relief. However, now there’s been what we’d call a “sexplosion” (if you will) of similar discussions: about the advantages of engaging in orgasms and sex for health (as frequently as you possible can, it appears). So we did a lot of compiling…and a little bit of digging; check this out!
Overall Benefits
1. Mellowed, not manic. We mentioned the stress relief, didn’t we? Well, this also includes lower blood pressure (that diastolic number to be exact). Which, when you consider high blood pressure increases the risk for heart attacks, strokes, and kidney disease, means it’s an indirect preventative for these issues as well. Is that a two-fer or a five-for-one?
2. Osmosis Jones to the rescue! It was mentioned in the previous post that oxytocin aids in physical healing; basically, sex one or two times a week results in high systemic antibodies. *cough* no more winter strep *cough*3. Pain no more! Ah, that lovely oxytocin! An increase in this stuff + the increase in endorphins it causes = pain reduction. Very nice for those contending with arthritis or other minor pains.
4. Sheeps and logs. Oxytocin, that little bugger again, also promotes sleep…as well as weight maintenance. Should someone maybe get on developing a synthetic version and start bottling that stuff? Yes; yes, they should.
5. Calm down there, Braniac! As previously mentioned, oxytocin (!) improves memory capacity. But the physicality of sex increases blood flow to the brain and includes a good dose of glucose (for energy) as an added…pleasure (which also correlates to an improved headache condition.)
6. Rockin’ bods. Sex does count as exercise—improving cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and balance. And exercise, as we know, also impacts emotional health—specifically self-esteem; so, it seems, does sex.
7. Glowing, are we? It isn’t called basking in a post-coital “glow” for nothing. A combination of endorphins and growth hormones heals skin damage from things like the sun, smoking, and cortisol buildup—offering a temporary, sort of…dewy finish.
8. A healthy trap. While not necessarily orgasmic in nature, swapping spit is good for your mouth in general: kissing leads to healthy gums and teeth.
Male Pluses
1. Life saver? Apparently the act of ejaculating reduces the risk of prostate cancer. (Five or more times a week in your 20’s? Substantial reduction of risk later on in life. While 21+ times a month is the number to…beat for older men.)
2. …Coming over animalistic! The testosterone boost helps fortify both bones and muscles.
3. That baby stuff. It is generally considered that the more sex a man has, the better the quality of sperm. (Just for reference, don’t y’know.)
Female Perks
1. Life saver, part duex? Here’s where the aforementioned digging came in: according to a French study (1989), women who engaged in sex acts infrequently or not at all were three times more at risk for breast cancer.
2. That stress relief thing? Yeah, even hugs do it for women, providing all the same nifty bonuses.
3. PMS? Try PNM! Or rather, “Pain No More,” as sex works for banishing the PMS agony. In fact, it can even help shorten periods and decreases the risk for endometriosis.
While all of these are interesting considerations for one’s sex life and well-being, it is just as important to note that increased activity correlates to an overall satisfaction with life and an extended one:
- The British Medical Journal reported that men who had sex less than once a month (compared to those who had sex once per week) were twice more likely to die within 10 years.
- Duke University delivered the results of a 25-yearlong study (of 270 individuals, ranged 60-96) that found the more sex men had, the longer they lived, and women who claimed to enjoy their sex lives lived 7-8 years longer as well.
Basically, fuck and be fucked, ladies and gentleman. Your lives may depend on it! …Or at the very least, be prolonged by it.
